365 Days of Songs (1993)

U2’s ode to the angels, completed with some inspiration from Wim Wenders’ Faraway, So Close! is my favorite song, and one of their most beautifully understated. Bono finds the right balance here between the matter-of-fact verses, slowly building up emotions in the choruses, and letting go for just that final “Stayyyyy!” in the last chorus. Ending on the snare/crash hit—with nothing else!—is like hearing a noise in the alleyway as you to stumble to bed after a long night out.
